Where do I even begin? Sicily has utterly bewitched me; it’s my ultimate sanctuary for both exploration and photography. I’ve had the immense pleasure of diving deep into workshops with the extraordinary Mimi Mollica in the vibrant heart of Palermo—yes, twice! One exhilarating session was further ignited by the presence of the legendary Bruce Gilden. I also had the privilege of learning from the inspiring Nikos Economopoulos. Mimi hosts an enchanting countryside workshop, where we find ourselves in a breathtaking secluded haven; the accommodation is nothing short of exceptional, while his sister Paula showers us with mouthwatering traditional Sicilian cuisine throughout the week—it truly feels like pure bliss on earth! There’s an overflowing treasure trove to witness and capture in Sicily, from ancient ruins pulsing with rich history to contemporary art that ignites the imagination. Gibellina, with Burri’s genius, is an absolute must-visit. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have explored it alongside the renowned architectural photographer Helene Binet, who graciously joined us as a guest tutor at one of the workshops. I’m also bursting with pride for having showcased my work in two collaborative exhibitions in Sicily, both beautifully curated by Mimi. Out of the thousands of photographs in my collection, selecting the very best has been a daunting yet exhilarating task, but I fervently aspire to pay homage to the breathtaking beauty of this magnificent island.

Helen Binet graces the stunning Crete di burri with her extraordinary presence, and in 2025, she was celebrated as a Lucie Awards Honouree for her remarkable achievements in Architecture. It was an absolute joy and a profound honor to have her as a guest tutor during the breathtaking Sicilian masterclass in the picturesque countryside, all thanks to my inspiring mentor, Mimi Miliica. Capturing this beautiful, intimate portrait of her was a true privilege that filled my heart with excitement.

For those familiar with Dadalia, it’s an enchanting Osteria, typically alive in the evenings, resonating with the warmth of locals and the curious hum of discerning tourists. The photo serves as a poignant contrast for those in the know, reflecting not the authentic view but perhaps capturing a fleeting moment of a wanderer passing by; at night, the scenery transforms into something utterly captivating. The slow shutter speed artfully draws attention to the subject, inviting viewers to linger in the magic of the moment.

During the tumultuous Covid times, we all experienced the weight of uncertainty, yet the spirit of creativity burned bright as some remarkable portraits emerged, capturing the diverse perspectives and actions of people during this pivotal moment in history.
